Introduction

Assessment is an essential part of the teaching-learning process. It helps teachers understand how well students are progressing, identify areas where support may be needed, and make informed decisions about future instruction. In inclusive classrooms, assessment should provide all learners with fair opportunities to demonstrate their understanding.

Alongside assessment, learning assets play an important role in supporting student learning. Assets such as stories, rhymes, songs, activities, value-based content, and learning experiences help make concepts more engaging, meaningful, and relatable. These resources encourage participation and help learners connect new knowledge to their everyday experiences.

Inclusive assessment recognises that students may demonstrate learning in different ways. While some learners may express their understanding through written responses, others may do so through oral explanations, drawings, presentations, projects, or practical activities. Providing multiple assessment options allows teachers to gain a more complete understanding of learner progress.

Feedback is equally important in supporting growth and learning. Constructive and supportive feedback helps students recognise their strengths, understand areas for improvement, and develop confidence in their abilities. Effective feedback encourages reflection and motivates learners to continue progressing.
