Observes and understands cause and effect relationships in nature by forming simple hypothesis and uses observations to explain their hypothesis.

Importance of situation analysis activity for the children:

Helps in developing:

  1. Analytical and perspective thinking ability
  2. Keen observation skills and listening skills
  3. Communication ability and appropriate questioning mind set
  4. Logical reasoning and critical thinking ability
  5. Problem solving skill
  6. Appropriate responding skill i.e. adaptability skill

The teacher can start the class with usual greetings. The teacher can explain to the children that they will assist the children to understand and resolve everyday problems. The teacher can start by narrating the following example:
Situation: Ganga forgot her lunch at home and realized it just before lunchtime. How will you help Ganga to have lunch?
The teacher can start giving suggestions like:

  • Ganga should double-check her school bag to confirm that she had actually forgotten to pack her lunchbox.
  • Ganga can inform her teacher and the teacher can help Ganga by giving her lunch from school’s lunch supplies.
  • The teacher can advise her to double check that she has taken her lunch box with her to school every morning before leaving home.
  • The teacher can prompt the children to give similar solutions and encourage them.
  • The teacher can continue this exercise by giving more situations to solve.

Situation: After art class, the classroom was very messy with papers and crayons everywhere.

One of the possible solutions:

  • The teacher asked everyone to pitch in and help clean up. With everyone working together, the classroom will be tidy again in no time.
  • The teacher should encourage every child to come up with solutions.
  • The teacher should discuss each solution and come up with pros and cons of each solution.

Observation:

Situation: Ram was having trouble solving a math problem and felt frustrated. 

One of the possible solutions:

  • Ram raised his hand and asked the teacher for help. The teacher explained the problem in a different way, and Ram understood it better.

  • Sri told the teacher that he forgot to feed the pet puppy. The teacher showed him where the food was kept and reminded him of his responsibility. Sri made sure to feed the puppy every day from then on, learning about the importance of responsibility.
