Estimated time to create the Sequencing skills board

10 to 20 minutes

Materials required for creating the Sequencing skills board

  1. Cardboard sheet
  2. Printouts of pictures of sequencing items/steps
  3. Template of sequencing board
  4. Scissors
  5. Tape
  6. Sequence sheet printout
  7. Velcro

Preparation for activity

Teachers can use a sequencing sheet to teach children how to do an activity in a particular sequence, using pictures demonstrating the processes.

Procedure

  • Cut the cardboard sheet into A3 size.
  • Paste the printout of the Sequence Sheet template on the board.
  • Cut one inch pieces of velcro and paste them on the area provided for placing the placards.
  • Take another cardboard sheet and cut small cards out of it to make placards. These will be used for displaying the sequencing of the activity.

Important Tips

  1. Teachers can create a sequencing template to display on the board using the headings: First, Then, Next, and Finally. By demonstrating everyday tasks, such as spreading jam on bread or peeling a banana, teachers can help students develop essential sequencing skills. This method allows students to break down and learn activities step-by-step.
  2. This activity caters to both auditory and visual learners. To assess comprehension and improve attention spans, the teacher can remove the pictures and ask students to recall what happens next. The model can also be adapted into a purely auditory exercise to further challenge their listening skills.

    Using the Learning Teaching Material

Teachers can use this activity to teach children new skills that are useful in daily life. It will improve logical order, improve storytelling and foster the development of better social skills.
