Introduction

Reflection allows teachers to identify what worked well, recognise challenges, and explore new strategies that better support learner needs. By paying attention to student participation, engagement, and learning outcomes, teachers gain valuable insights that inform future planning and instruction.

An equally important aspect of inclusive teaching is the use of inclusive language. The words teachers choose in the classroom and in their communication with parents play a significant role in creating a respectful, welcoming, and equitable learning environment. Inclusive language acknowledges and values the diverse backgrounds, abilities, cultures, identities, and experiences of learners and their families. By using positive, person-centred, and respectful language, teachers help foster students’ self-esteem, sense of belonging, and active participation in learning. Inclusive communication with parents also strengthens trust and collaboration, ensuring that families feel valued as partners in their child’s educational journey.

Students also benefit from opportunities to reflect on their own learning. Self-assessment encourages learners to think about what they know, what they have learned, and the areas where they need further support. Strategies such as the KWL approach—What I Know, What I Want to Know, and What I Learned—help students become active participants in their learning journey.

Curiosity, inquiry, reflection, and respectful communication are powerful tools that promote deeper understanding and lifelong learning. When teachers create opportunities for questioning, exploration, self-reflection, and inclusive interactions, learners become more engaged, independent, and confident.

This final module brings together the key ideas explored throughout the course and highlights the importance of continuous improvement, inclusive communication, and reflective practice in creating classrooms where every learner and family feels respected, valued, and supported.
