Introduction

Learners differ not only in their abilities and experiences but also in the ways they prefer to receive, process, and express information. Understanding these differences helps teachers design learning experiences that are more engaging, meaningful, and accessible for all students.

Learning styles describe the different ways in which learners prefer to interact with information. Some learners understand concepts more easily through visual supports such as diagrams, charts, and illustrations. Others learn better through listening, discussion, and verbal explanations, while some benefit most from movement, hands-on activities, and practical experiences.

An effective way to support these diverse learning preferences is through multisensory learning. Multisensory learning involves engaging two or more senses during the learning process. It combines seeing, hearing, speaking, touching, and doing to help learners understand and remember concepts more effectively.

The VAKT approach—Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactile—is commonly used to create multisensory learning experiences. By activating multiple senses, teachers can increase learner engagement, improve understanding, and support a wider range of learning needs within the classroom.

In this module, we will explore different learning styles and understand how multisensory learning can help create more inclusive and effective learning environments.
