This unit covers Grade 1 Braille words, with alphabets ‘a’ to ‘j’. In this Grade 1 level, Braille is written letter-for-letter.
For Example:
How the word ‘cat’ is written in Braille

Here, the word ‘cat’ is typed in print format: c | a | t , a 3-letter word.
In Braille format, three braille cells are substituted for each print character. This is the first step in learning Braille.
Let us learn words in Grade1 Braille using the digital tool as mentioned below:
When a word is selected, that word will be voiced out. For example, when the word ‘abide’ is selected, the audio will play it out, and then the learner must type the instructed word ‘abide’ in Braille format.

If the input is correct, the audio will play “Correct.” If not, the audio will play “Sorry! Try again,” following which the learner has to re-enter the correct Braille input.
In the same way, after completing all the words in this section, the learner will be directed to the main menu to continue with the next lesson.

Exercise: 1

The learner has to type all the listed words in Braille format and complete the training as illustrated above.
