Story: Tina’s Number Adventure

Once upon a time in a beautiful village, there was a curious little girl named Tina who loved numbers. Tina used to visit a mango tree often. One sunny day, Tina found a magical number line under the big mango tree. This time the number line had numbers from 51 to 70 that shone when Tina stepped on the number line.

Tina decided to take a magical journey on the number line. As she stood on the number 51, her friendly squirrel arrived to meet Tina.

“Hi, Tina!” squeaked the squirrel, ‘Can you help me find the number right after 51?”

Tina looked carefully at the number line and said, “Sure! The number right after 51 is 52.”

“Thank you!” said the squirrel, and he scurried off happily.

Tina continued her adventure and soon met her playful friend Bunny. Bella, the bunny, was hopping around number 59.

“Hello, Tina!” the bunny called out, “Can you tell me what number comes right after 59?”

Tina smiled and answered, “Of course! The number right after 59 is 60.”

The bunny gave Tina a big bunny hug and hopped away joyfully.

Next, Tina reached the number 64 and saw a cheerful bird perched on a branch.

“Hi, Tina!” chirped the bird. “Can you find out which number is before 64?”

Tina thought for a moment, turned around to look at the numbers, and said, “The number right before 64 is 63.”

The bird flapped its wings and flew off, singing a happy tune.

Finally, Tina arrived at number 70 and met her wise friend, the old owl.

“Hello, Tina,” the owl said slowly. “Can you tell me which number comes right before 70?”

Tina looked at the number line and said, “The number right before 70 is 69.”

The owl smiled and gave Tina a slow, friendly nod before moving on.

As the sun began to set, Tina looked back at her adventure on the magical number line. She had learned so much about numbers and had helped her new friends. Tina knew that every number had a special friend that came before and after it, just like her new friends.

With a happy heart, Tina went back home, knowing that she was now a number expert!

And so, Tina’s number adventure ended, but her love for numbers and helping friends continued to grow.

Instructions to the Teacher Note to the teacher:
The teacher can reinforce learning through a fun game.

  1. Ask the children to stand/sit in a line.
  2. The teacher gives a number to one of the children. The child sitting before him should tell the number that comes before, and the child sitting after him should tell the number that comes after the number that the teacher had given.

The teacher can proceed with the following activities to reinforce the concept.

Objective:
To reinforce the concept of before, after and between numbers from 51 to 70.

Importance of the activity for children:

Helps in developing:

  1. Numerical Skills (Number recognition, sequencing, place value)
  2. Cognitive Skills (Memory, pattern recognition)
  3. Gross motor Skills (Walking, speaking)
  4. Fine motor Skills (Holding the chit)
  5. Problem solving Skills (Identifying the number before and after a given number)
  6. Language Skills (Vocabulary building, listening, verbalizing the number)
  7. Social Skills (Patience, appreciating others)
  8. Emotional Skills (Building confidence in numerical abilities, experiencing a sense of achievement, and taking pride in learning new skills)

Resources required:
Chits of paper with numbers from 51 to 70

Setting for the activity:
The activity can be done indoors or outdoors depending on the space availability.

Type of activity: Individual activity

Preparation of activity:
The teacher should keep a box with the chits in front of the children.

Role of the teacher: Demonstrator and facilitator

Procedure:

  1. The teacher should call a child to the front and shake the box containing chits.
  2. The teacher should ask the child to pick one chit from the box.
  3. The child should pick up one chit and read the number that was picked.
  4. The child should then proceed to mention the number before it and after it and say that the number is between the number before it and the number after it.
  5. The teacher should repeat the activity for all children.

Observations:

  1. The teacher observes how confidently children are able to identify and read numbers between 51 and 70.
  2. How accurately can the children state the number that comes before and after the number picked.

Conclusion:
The children will learn the concept of before, after, between, and missing numbers from 51 to 70.

  2. How accurately does the child identify the number that comes before or after the given number from 51 to 70?
  3. The teacher notes if the child can locate and hop to the correct number on the grid confidently and independently.

Conclusion:
The children will learn the concept of before, after, between, and missing numbers from 51 to 70.

  • Art and Craft:
    • Charts with 3 columns with a number written in the center column can be given.
    • Children should make a collage of the number before and after the number and paste it in the respective columns.
    •  After completion the collage sheet can be displayed in the class noticeboard.
  • Language Class:
Children can be asked to speak a few sentences using numbers 51 to 70.
  • Physical Education Class:
    • Assign a number card from 51 to 70 to each child.
    • The teacher randomly calls out any number from 51 to 70 (e.g., 56).
    • The child holding that number raises the card and shows it to everyone.
    • The child with the number before (e.g., 55) says, “I come before 56.”

    • The activity continues with different numbers being called out.
    • The teacher should quickly say the numbers and the children’s quick response is appreciated

Assessment:
The teacher can give the practice worksheet to the children that can be followed by an assessment worksheet.

Check list for teacher:
